Film and Series Production: Türkiye as an Export Engine

The film and TV industry in Türkiye has become a global force, reaching $602 million in exports by 2024. With thousands of productions broadcasted in over 150 countries on television and digital platforms, they have accessed over 800 million unique viewers. Specifically in the TV series sector, revenues exceeding $500 million were generated from over 300 contents.

These figures solidify the industry’s contributions to the economy, with the Ministry of Trade strengthening various areas such as overseas events, advertising, dubbing, and subtitling with support exceeding 47 million Turkish Liras in 2024.

Joint Production Models and Global Collaborations

The sector strategically utilizes international co-productions. At MIPCOM 2025, 28 Turkish companies convened in Cannes, expanding their distribution networks and transforming into cultural diplomacy. Platforms like Netflix have propelled 47 Turkish productions onto global Top 10 lists since 2021, with content being among the most-watched in 92 countries for 184 weeks.

While sales continue in competitive markets like the US, Brazil, Russia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, trade consulates intervened against illicit broadcasts in Latin America and MENA countries, leading to the removal of such content. These collaborations are reinforced by the rise of digital platforms, with the digital entertainment volume in e-commerce reaching 19.6 billion Turkish Liras, where broadcast platforms held a 38% share.

Content Export Strategies: From Soft Power to Economic Gains

Export strategies focus on promotion and marketing. The Middle East, Latin America, the US, Australia, and Europe are the most loyal markets for series, reaching a daily audience of 800 million, with content attracting over 1 billion unique viewers. Simplifying regulations, the Ministry of Trade increased support applications and activities, establishing a permanent presence in highly competitive regions.

The tourism impact is remarkable. The settings of the series attract viewers at foreign promotional stalls, triggering an influx of visitors to Türkiye. In addition, awards and advertising campaigns have multiplied with global Top 10 achievements leading to fan meetings and brand collaborations.
