Exploring Antik Tiyatrolar in Türkiye: Drone Shooting Permissions and Venue Rental Guide

In the breathtaking sites of Aspendos and Efes in Türkiye, obtaining official drone shooting permits is a must. Particularly in these two UNESCO World Heritage sites, it’s essential to be aware that regulations are strictly enforced. While our search results may not provide a comprehensive list of venue rental companies, we have compiled information on the current regulations and alternative solutions.

Drone Shooting: Legal Framework

In Türkiye, drone flights are regulated by the Sivil Havacılık Genel Müdürlüğü (SHGM). Experiences in Aspendos indicate that obtaining drone permits can be more challenging due to the cultural significance of ancient theaters—some pilots may be restricted from flying in the area for conservation reasons. Similar restrictions may apply in Efes as well.

Current Information for Venues

Aspendos Ancient Theater

Known as the best-preserved amphitheater in the Mediterranean, Aspendos is a sought-after venue for events with a capacity of approximately 9,000 spectators. Since 1994, it has been a regular host of the International Opera and Ballet Festival. This year, the festival will take place from September 12–28, 2026.

For private venue rental requests, direct communication with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism or the festival organizers is necessary. Its proximity to Antalya Airport, being a 45–50 minute drive away, is a factor favored by tourism groups.

Efes Ancient City

With over 2.5 million visitors in 2025, Efes is Türkiye’s most visited archaeological site. It also offers a Night Museums program regularly. However, changes are occurring in building permits, with the entrance area being relocated outside the walls and a new visitor management model being implemented. Due to these changes, venue rental procedures could be revised in the near future.

Practical Steps

For drone shooting:

  • Initiate the appropriate permit process from SHGM for drones weighing less than 500 grams.
  • Request additional approval from the ancient site management (archaeological site restrictions apply).

For venue rental:

  • Submit your application directly to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Museums and Archaeological Sites department.
  • Outside festival periods, more flexible conditions may be available.

For film and advertising productions, obtaining support from the Ministry of Culture through the country’s film incentive programs is possible. Collaborating with local production companies can be advantageous in this aspect.
