Prime Video has agreed to an exception for “Son Yemek”: Özcan Deniz’s new Turkish original film will be screened at a gala at the 63rd Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival on 29 October 2026, three weeks before it starts streaming on 19 November. Birsen Altuntaş says the permission was a special exception, made so the film could meet audiences on a cinema screen before its Prime Video release.

Streaming originals usually launch on the service, with no theatrical or festival run before that. In “Son Yemek”’s case the timing is short. The Antalya gala is on 29 October and the platform release follows on 19 November, so the attention from the festival has not faded when the film goes online. It is a romantic drama about a love story that lasts more than 25 years. Sebahat, a talented pianist, and Bekir meet by chance and begin a passionate affair, and then Bekir suddenly disappears.

Many years later, when Sebahat has built a new life, the two meet again. Earlier Prime Video materials, reported by Beyazperde in November 2025, gave more detail: Bekir is a mysterious hitman, the pianist saves his life when they first meet, and when they meet again she is married. The film then turns on her choice between love and loyalty. The Turkish title means “The Last Meal”. No official international title had been announced by the source date.

What does Özcan Deniz bring to a platform launch?

Box office numbers and a wide audience. Özcan Deniz (born 1972 in Ankara) has worked as a singer, actor and filmmaker for three decades, and his films have topped the Turkish box office before.

In November 2012 Hürriyet reported that “Evim Sensin”, which it described as his second film, sold 850,604 tickets in its first ten days and beat the James Bond film “Skyfall”, which had 350,016 admissions over the same period. In February 2015 his romantic comedy “Sevimli Tehlikeli”, which he wrote and directed, was the number-one film in Türkiye for the week of 12 February with 257,496 tickets sold. His first film as writer-director was “Ya Sonra?” (2011).

On television he played leads in some of the best-known Turkish dramas: “Asmalı Konak” (2002–2003), “Haziran Gecesi” (2004–2006), “Kaderimin Yazıldığı Gün” (2014–2015) and “İstanbullu Gelin” (2017–2019). He also appeared in “Kızıl Goncalar” (2023). Viewers who know these series from TV are the audience a platform hopes to bring to a new film.

Where does “Son Yemek” fit in Prime Video’s Turkish strategy?

It is the latest in a growing line of Turkish Amazon Originals. Prime Video started this line with feature films and later added series.

The first Turkish Amazon Original film was “Rüyanda Görürsün”, a No4 Yapım production with Murat Boz and Burcu Özberk, released in February 2023. “Bihter” followed the same year. It was produced by Timur Savcı’s TAFF Pictures and directed by Mehmet Binay and Caner Alper, and Tilbe Saran had a guest role. In 2024 the service released “Dilemma”, its first Turkish original series, and announced the romantic comedy “Gölgede 39 Derece” (Bir Film) and other projects. In June 2026 Prime Video released the time-travel drama “Yaz Evi”, produced by OGM Pictures. “Son Yemek” is its autumn 2026 Turkish film.

The pattern so far: Prime Video works with established Turkish production companies, casts well-known TV stars and gives priority to romance and drama, the genres that also sell Turkish TV series abroad.

How does Altın Portakal handle films that are going to streaming?

“Son Yemek” is screening as a gala, not in competition. Gala screenings are where the festival can show big commercial titles without the eligibility questions that apply to competition films.

The festival has long protected its competition from films that already had a release elsewhere. For the 48th edition in 2011, for example, national competition films could not have been shown on any national TV channel, including pay TV, or sold on DVD (Sinemalar.com, January 2011). “Son Yemek” has not yet been released anywhere, and it is going to Antalya as a gala title. The Oksijen newspaper listed it on 3 October 2026 among four gala films, together with “A Woman Asleep” (Uyuyan Kadın), “Çakallarla Dans 8: Şututgart Çıkarması” and the Ediz Hun documentary “Son Oyun”.

The 63rd festival runs from 24 to 31 October 2026, with the opening at Antalya Spor Salonu and the closing ceremony at Cam Piramit. Medyascope reports a festival budget of 136 million TL and 11 million TL in total award support, including 5 million TL for best film in the national feature competition, which is chaired by director Derviş Zaim. Tilbe Saran, one of the “Son Yemek” cast, will receive an honorary award (Onur Ödülü) at this edition. As a result, both the film and one of its actors will be on stage in Antalya the same week.
