24 Actors, One Well: Why Kanal D Is Betting on OGM’s Karakuyu

24 Actors, One Well: Why Kanal D Is Betting on OGM’s Karakuyu

Twenty-four named actors, a director with a strong drama track record and a producer that now runs its own global sales arm: Karakuyu, the new Kanal D series from OGM Pictures, released its first teaser on 25 October 2026. For international buyers of Türkiye’s scripted content, it is one of the clearest signals of what the country’s biggest free-to-air channels will push abroad in 2027: rural family sagas with a strong female lead, inheritance conflicts and a slow-burning romance.

In brief

  • What: Karakuyu (literally “Black Well”), a new prime-time drama for Kanal D, produced by OGM Pictures.
  • Who: written by Deniz Akçay, directed by Nezaket Coşkun; led by Özge Törer and Onur Tuna, with Sermiyan Midyat and Uğur Uzunel in a 24-name cast.
  • Story: a woman who rebuilt her life under a new identity inherits land and returns to her hometown, where family secrets and local power brokers wait for her.
  • Status: first teaser out on 25 October 2026; an official broadcast date has not yet been announced.
  • Why it matters: OGM Pictures sells its titles worldwide through its own distribution arm, OGM Universe, while Kanal D International runs one of Türkiye’s largest drama catalogues.

What is Karakuyu really about — and why a well?

Short answer: it is a homecoming drama in which land is not just an inheritance but a weapon. The heroine, Ferda, has spent years building a new life under a changed identity. When she inherits land, she has to go back to Karakuyu, the place where she grew up. There she faces her father, her siblings, and the people who hold power in the town.

According to the synopsis published with the teaser, Ferda tries to protect her siblings and take back control of her own life, but gets pulled into a struggle she did not expect. A man named Kahraman enters her life, and the relationship between them is built on attraction and conflict at the same time. Family secrets, power games and old debts that follow the characters into the present are the engine of the story.

The well of the title is literal as well as symbolic. In the teaser, Ferda returns to the well at Karakuyu and confronts the pain of her past there. Other key beats shown in the trailer are an unexpected meeting with her father and her first encounter with Kahraman.

Turkish press reports during pre-production said the script was revised before filming: in earlier versions Ferda came back as a prosecutor, while later reports describe her as a teacher. The final version will only be clear on screen, and buyers should treat early synopses with caution.

Who is behind the series?

Short answer: one of Türkiye’s most export-minded production houses, working with an experienced drama director and writer.

Supporting cast Sermiyan Midyat, Uğur Uzunel, Yaren Yapıcı, Cenan Çamyurdu and others 24 names announced in total

The full cast list published with the teaser includes Özge Törer, Onur Tuna, Sermiyan Midyat, Uğur Uzunel, Yaren Yapıcı, Cenan Çamyurdu, Elçin Atamgüç, Emrah Özdemir, Ayça Erturan, Cihan Talay, Burcu Salihoğlu, Ceren Koç, Özlem Taş, Pervin Mert, Selen Güney, Abdullah Cersel, Defne Burnaz, Betül Alaz, Deniz Bal, Emin Çalış, Yaren Özkoca, Efe Akarler, Alperen Yazıcı and Nazan Diper. A cast of this size is typical for Turkish prime-time drama, where episodes often run well over two hours and are later re-cut into shorter episodes for international slots.

Why does Özge Törer matter for international buyers?

Short answer: she brings recognition from one of the most widely exported Turkish historical series.

Özge Törer is best known for playing Bala Hatun, the wife of Osman Gazi, in ATV’s historical epic Kuruluş Osman — her first lead role. Historical sagas of that type have built large audiences in the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia and parts of Africa, so a familiar face from that franchise can help a contemporary drama open doors in the same markets. Türkiye-born and trained in theatre (she studied stage arts at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University), Törer moves here from period costume to a modern rural drama — a shift buyers will watch closely.

Her co-star Onur Tuna is a familiar name to Turkish audiences, and the presence of Sermiyan Midyat, also known as a writer-director in comedy, adds a recognisable character actor to the ensemble.

Where is it being shot — and does location matter?

Short answer: yes, because Anatolian landscapes are part of the product being sold.

During pre-production, Turkish media reported that the team first planned to film in Divriği, a district of Sivas province in Central Anatolia known for its UNESCO-listed Great Mosque and Hospital. Transport and logistics were later reported as a reason to consider Tokat instead. The producer has not published a final location list. For buyers, the key point is the look: dry hills, stone villages and small-town interiors rather than Istanbul mansions — a format that has proved itself in recent rural hits such as the Mardin-set Uzak Şehir.

What is OGM Pictures’ track record abroad?

Short answer: OGM is one of the producers that moved early to control its own international sales.

In 2022 OGM Pictures launched OGM Universe, a distribution arm that takes the company’s dramas directly to international markets such as MIPCOM in Cannes. Titles it has presented to buyers include Reborn (Çarpıntı), The Fall of the King (Kral Kaybederse, based on a novel by psychiatrist-author Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu) and Six of Us (Sahipsizler). OGM Universe’s global distribution and partnership director Ekin Koyuncu Karaman has described the strategy as authentic stories with universal appeal and strong talent.

In January 2026 trade press reported that OGM Pictures appointed Berna Levin to lead international production — another sign that the company is building beyond the domestic market. OGM is also behind Centilmen (The Gentleman), which is in rehearsals for NOW.

How does Karakuyu fit Kanal D’s export strategy?

Short answer: it adds a fresh contemporary drama to a catalogue that already sells across Latin America, MENA, the CIS and Asia.

Kanal D International, the channel’s sales division, is behind some of the best-known Turkish exports, including Fatmagül, Forbidden Love (Aşk-ı Memnu), Time Goes By and Ruthless City. Speaking around MIPCOM, its distribution strategy and sales director Elif Tatoğlu named Latin America, MENA and Asia (especially India and Southeast Asia) as growth targets, while pointing to rising dubbing costs and shrinking acquisition budgets as industry challenges. The channel’s newest premium drama, Sins and Roses (Güller ve Günahlar), reportedly closed several deals before its domestic broadcast.

The bigger picture is strong: according to Demirören Media executive Murat Yancı, Turkish dramas reach an estimated one billion viewers worldwide, and international sales of Turkish series were about one billion dollars last year. Turkish-language drama ranks second globally after English-language productions.

Who controls the international rights?

Short answer: not yet announced. In Turkish drama, rights for a channel-commissioned series can sit with the channel’s sales arm, the producer’s distributor, or be split by territory. With both Kanal D International and OGM Universe active in global markets, buyers should ask both sides directly before planning a 2027 slot.

Our take

Our take: Karakuyu has the ingredients that travel well — a wronged heroine returning home, an inheritance fight, a magnetic antagonist-lover and Anatolian scenery. For broadcasters in MENA, Latin America, the Balkans and Central Asia, it is worth putting on the watch list now: ratings of the first four to six episodes in Türkiye will decide whether it survives the country’s ruthless schedule, and early buyers often secure better terms. For platforms, the series could suit a dubbed library slot after its domestic run. For brands and tourism boards, a successful rural drama can turn a little-known district into a destination — the effect Mardin enjoyed with Uzak Şehir. Our advice: track the premiere date, early ratings and the rights holder before negotiating.
